After a 12 year career with the NSW Police Force, Hank first worked in the Domestic Swimming Pool Industry in Sydney, Australia some 30 years ago.
He initially trained as an installer of Pool Fab domestic pre-engineered vinyl-lined swimming pools. It was at this time that Hank Van THE POOL MAN was formed. This was a particularly useful grounding for flexible PVC membrane/vinyl liner installations and there was a progression into the pool renovation market.
PVC linings and other such membranes have been used to overcome many a leaking problem worldwide.
Our advanced installation techniques allow for flexible waterproofing membranes to be installed in all types of structures including concrete pools of all shapes and sizes both residential and commercial, pre-engineered, and fibreglass pools and many more applications including drinking water tanks, aquariums and industrial tanks.
Our concentration on the commercial swimming pool market over the past 10 years or more has meant training and working in overseas markets involving a large variety of products.
From 1999 to 2007 we worked as qualified installer/project co-ordinators and technical consultants to Myrtha Pools from Italy who have installed pools for some of the world’s most prestigious events such as the Olympics, World Long and Short Course Swimming Championships and other special events.
This meant working on large commercial installations in many countries including locations in Australia, New Zealand, USA, Europe, Africa and Asia. Whilst all these pools were lined with PVC membranes they were not limited to that.
We assisted with and co-ordinated a major project for Myrtha Pools USA at Long Beach California in 2006 where we installed 2 x 50 metre competition pool on the car park of the Long Beach Convention Centre. These pools were used for meets such as the Janet Evans Invitational where our Aussies performed so well and the US Olympic Trials. These pools were dismantled after the events for re-installation in other states of the USA.
There is a growing acceptance for the use of flexible membranes in Local Government Council Facilities, as well as the private sector.
Councils in North Sydney NSW, Pambula NSW, Oberon NSW, Portland NSW, Croydon Victoria to name but a few from our personal experience have embraced this concept to overcome leaking pools and other issues with their centres.
Some of our clients include such valuable National Assets as our Private Swimming Schools such as Forbes Carlile at Ryde NSW, Aquatic Downunder at North Rocks NSW, My Swim at Smithfield NSW and Swimtime Harbord NSW, have all had their pools transformed by us.
Our concept is additionally used for special events and residential pools in Australia following similar trends worldwide.
Upon returning to Sydney Australia in 2007 to further promote renovations and PVC membrane installations in Australia, we assisted Astral Pools of Spain with the mammoth installation of 2 temporary Olympic sized pools for the 2007 World Swimming Championships held at the Melbourne Tennis Centre. One of these pools was built on Centre Court, Rod Laver Arena and the other on another indoor court just for these championships. These pools were later dismantled for re-installation in Victoria at other council locations, after being gifted to the Victorian Government as part of the promotion.
We are preferred and recommended contractors for Astral Pool installations in Australia. In this capacity we are assisting South Pacific Pools of South Australia in 2010-2011 with the installation and lining of 3 x 25 metre pools on the environmentally sensitive location of the Gorgon Project on Barrow Island off Dampier in Western Australia.
In recent years we worked on several council pools in NSW installing membranes to overcome serious leaks which have existed for many years including Oberon, Portland, North Sydney and swim school pools in Harbord, North Rocks and Smithfield IN NSW and Walloon in Queensland and many more.................
